ARE YOU STRONG ENOUGH?

DEVOTIONAL

Pressure has a way of revealing where our strength really comes from.

There are situations in life that are simply too big for us to handle on our own. No matter how experienced, talented, determined, or spiritually mature we may be, eventually we will face something that exceeds our natural ability.

That does not mean we have failed.

It means we have reached the place where we must depend upon a strength greater than our own.

God never intended for us to live the Christian life through human strength alone.

When Joshua was preparing to lead Israel after the death of Moses, God repeatedly told him to be strong and courageous. But Joshua’s confidence was not supposed to come from his own ability.

God told him:

“For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
— Joshua 1:9

Joshua could move forward because God was going with him.

Jesus gave His disciples the same assurance when He commissioned them to go into all the world:

“I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
— Matthew 28:20

Our confidence is not that every situation will be easy.

Our confidence is that we will never face it alone.

HIS GRACE IS OUR STRENGTH

Paul understood weakness better than most.

He endured opposition, persecution, hardship, rejection, imprisonment, physical suffering, and tremendous pressure.

Yet God told him:

“My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.”
— 2 Corinthians 12:9 NLT

Paul discovered that weakness did not have to become defeat.

Instead, weakness could become the place where the strength of Christ was most clearly revealed.

He eventually declared:

“For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
— 2 Corinthians 12:10

Sometimes our prayer is:

“Lord, make me stronger.”

But perhaps the deeper prayer should be:

“Lord, teach me to depend upon You more.”

PRESSURED, BUT NOT DEFEATED

Paul wrote:

“We are pressed on every side by troubles, but we are not crushed… We get knocked down, but we are not destroyed.”
— 2 Corinthians 4:8-9 NLT

Pressure is real.

Weariness is real.

Confusion is real.

There may even be moments when we do not know what to do next.

But pressure does not have the final word.

Paul understood that there was a supernatural power working inside of him.

“We now have this light shining in our hearts, but we ourselves are like fragile clay jars containing this great treasure. This makes it clear that our great power is from God, not from ourselves.”
— 2 Corinthians 4:7 NLT

That is the key:

THE POWER IS FROM GOD, NOT FROM US.

THE HOLY SPIRIT HELPS US

Romans 8:26 gives us tremendous encouragement:

“And the Holy Spirit helps us in our weakness.”

God does not look at our weakness and walk away.

He comes alongside us.

The Holy Spirit strengthens us, guides us, helps us pray, and empowers us to continue when we feel that our own strength is gone.

That is why Jesus told His disciples not to begin their mission until they had received the power of the Holy Spirit.

Luke 24:49

“Stay here in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”

Jesus was essentially telling them:

You are not strong enough to accomplish a supernatural assignment with natural strength.

Neither are we.

We need the power and presence of the Holy Spirit.

THE BIG IDEA

ARE YOU STRONG ENOUGH?

By yourself?

No.

But that was never God’s plan.

Through Christ, through His grace, and through the power of the Holy Spirit, we can stand when pressure comes.

Philippians 4:13

“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Our confidence is not:

“I am strong.”

Our confidence is:

“THE ONE WHO STRENGTHENS ME IS STRONG.”

This week, whenever you feel pressure, pause before reacting and pray:

“Lord, I cannot do this in my own strength. I need Your grace, Your wisdom, and the power of Your Holy Spirit.”

Then remind yourself:

God is with me.

His grace is sufficient.

The Holy Spirit helps me in my weakness.

The power is God’s, not mine.

I will not quit.

CLOSING PRAYER

Father, thank You that You never intended for us to face life in our own strength. When pressure comes and we feel weak, remind us that You are with us. Teach us to depend upon Your grace instead of our own ability. Fill us continually with the power of Your Holy Spirit. Strengthen our hearts, renew our minds, and give us courage to keep moving forward. When we are pressed, help us not to be crushed. When we are knocked down, help us to rise again. May our lives demonstrate that the power working within us comes from You and not from ourselves. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
