Opening Thought

Jesus didn’t just come down from the Mount of Olives—He first came down from heaven.

Palm Sunday reveals a powerful truth:
The King came—but not the way people expected.

They wanted a conquering King.
God sent a humble Savior.

Devotional

Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem wasn’t just a moment—it was a revelation.

He had already been revealed as:
•The Son of God (to Mary)
•The Savior (to Joseph)
•The Lamb of God (to John the Baptist)

Now, He was being revealed as King—but not a political king… a redeeming King.

Riding on a donkey fulfilled prophecy (Zechariah 9:9) and symbolized humility. While earthly kings rode war horses, Jesus came in peace.

The crowd shouted, “Hosanna!” and called Him Son of David, expecting Him to overthrow Rome.

But Jesus came to overthrow something far greater:
•Sin
•Death
•The Grave

Just days later, the same voices crying “Hosanna” would shout, “Crucify Him.”

Why?
Because they wanted victory without the cross.

But true victory only came when Jesus declared:

“It is finished.” (John 19:30)

That means:
Paid in full. Complete. Accomplished.

Key Truth

There is no crown without the cross.
There is no victory without surrender.

Jesus calls us the same way:

“Take up your cross daily and follow Me.” (Luke 9:23)

We cannot experience new life while holding onto the old one.

Discussion Questions

1. Revelation of Jesus
•How do you personally see Jesus right now—Savior, King, Friend, Lord?
•Why do you think the crowd misunderstood who Jesus was?

2. Expectation vs Reality
•Where in your life have you expected God to move one way, but He moved differently?
•Why is it hard to accept God’s way over our expectations?

3. The Cross Before Victory
•What does “taking up your cross” look like in real life?
•What are areas where you want victory without surrender?

4. Lordship of Jesus
•What does it truly mean to make Jesus Lord (not just Savior)?
•According to Luke 6:46, why is obedience evidence of lordship?

5. Fruit of Our Lives
•What kind of “fruit” is your life producing right now?
•What needs to change to reflect Jesus more clearly?

Application

This week, focus on true surrender:
•Identify one area of your life you haven’t fully given to Jesus
•Repent (turn from it intentionally)
•Replace it with obedience to God’s Word
•Spend time daily in Scripture (1 Peter 2:2 – grow spiritually)

Declaration:
•“The old life is gone!”
•“I am living a new life in Christ!”

Group Activation

Have everyone say together:

“Hosanna! Jesus is Lord!”
(Repeat it boldly as a declaration of surrender and faith)

Then ask:
Have you truly made Him Lord of your life?

Allow time for reflection and prayer.

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You for sending Jesus—the King who came down.
Not in pride, but in humility. Not to conquer nations, but to save our souls.

Jesus, we declare You are Lord.
We surrender every part of our lives to You.
Teach us to take up our cross daily and follow You faithfully.

Transform us. Renew us. Use us as ambassadors of Your Kingdom.

We say it boldly today:
Hosanna! Jesus is Lord!

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
