Healing in the Will
by Don Vess
⸻
Scripture
Psalm 107:20 (NKJV)
He sent His word and healed them, and delivered them from all their destructions.
⸻
Message
God’s will has never changed. From the Old Testament to the New, He has always desired for His people to walk in health and wholeness. When He revealed Himself to Israel, He said, “I am the Lord who heals you” (Exodus 15:26). Healing wasn’t a temporary blessing—it was a covenant promise, rooted in His character.
In the New Covenant, this promise is even stronger. Through Jesus Christ, we have a better covenant built on better promises (Hebrews 8:6). Healing is no longer earned through perfect obedience to the Law—it is received through faith in the finished work of Jesus.
When Christ walked the earth, He was moved with compassion and healed all who came to Him. Matthew 12:15 says, “Great multitudes followed Him, and He healed them all.” He didn’t heal to prove He was divine; He healed because He loved. That same Jesus—unchanging and merciful—is still healing today.
The power to heal was not meant to end with the early church. Jesus commissioned His followers, saying, “They will lay hands on the sick, and they will recover” (Mark 16:18). The same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead now lives in us. But unbelief often clouds our faith. When Jesus’ disciples couldn’t heal a young boy tormented by an unclean spirit, He said, “This kind can come out by nothing but prayer and fasting” (Mark 9:29).
Fasting and prayer don’t make God move—they clear the clutter in our hearts so we can believe. As we fill our minds with His Word, our faith grows stronger. Romans 10:17 reminds us, “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.”
Jesus paid the full price for our redemption—spirit, soul, and body. The Greek word sozo means “to save, heal, and make whole.” If He bore our sicknesses and carried our pains (Isaiah 53:4; Matthew 8:17), then we are no longer meant to carry them ourselves.
Healing is not just what God can do; it’s who He is.
And His will is clear: “Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers” (3 John 1:2).
⸻
Reflection
•Do I truly believe that it is God’s will to heal me—or do I still wrestle with unbelief?
•What steps can I take this week (prayer, fasting, Scripture study) to strengthen my faith?
•How can I partner with God’s will by praying for others who need healing?
⸻
Prayer
Father,
Thank You for sending Your Word and healing me. I believe that Jesus bore my sickness, carried my pain, and redeemed me from the curse. Help me to walk in faith and not doubt Your promises. Remove any unbelief that stands in the way of Your healing power in my life. Use me as an instrument of Your compassion to pray for others and see them restored.
I believe that You are the same yesterday, today, and forever—and that Your will is to heal.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
