Devotional

In Numbers 13, Moses sent twelve leaders to scout the Promised Land. Each man saw the same territory, the same giants, and the same opportunity. Yet they came back with two completely different reports.

Ten spies focused on the obstacles. They were intimidated by the giants and convinced the people that the land could not be taken. Their report was driven by fear.

But Joshua and Caleb saw the situation through the eyes of faith. They believed that if God had promised the land, then God would also give them the victory.

The difference was not what they saw — it was how they interpreted what they saw.

The majority report said, “We cannot.”
The minority report said, “God can.”

Fear and intimidation kept an entire generation from entering the Promised Land. Only Joshua and Caleb experienced the inheritance because they trusted God rather than public opinion.

The same principle still applies today.

Many believers miss the promises of God because they are afraid of what others may think. Some hesitate to pursue deeper spiritual experiences, such as the baptism in the Holy Spirit, because of opinions, traditions, or teachings that contradict the promises of Scripture.

But Jesus Himself promised the coming of the Holy Spirit.

Luke 24:49 records His final instruction to the disciples:
“I will send the Holy Spirit, just as My Father promised… stay here until you are filled with power from heaven.”

Later, in Acts 1:8, Jesus declared:
“You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you.”

And on the Day of Pentecost, Peter explained exactly what was happening:

Acts 2:33
“Having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.”

Then Peter made something very clear:

Acts 2:39
“The promise is to you, and to your children, and to all who are afar off.”

God’s promises do not change with culture, trends, or popular opinion. They remain rooted in the unchanging truth of His Word.

This is why believers must be careful about the voices they allow to influence them. Words are powerful.

Proverbs 18:21 reminds us that life and death are in the power of the tongue. What we hear and what we speak shape our faith.

Romans 10:17 tells us that faith comes by hearing the Word of God. When the written Word (Logos) becomes alive in our hearts through the Spirit, it becomes Rhema — revelation that produces faith.

For this reason, wise believers look to the testimony of faithful men and women of God whose lives reflected integrity and spiritual fruit. Throughout history, leaders such as E. W. Kenyon, T. L. Osborn, Smith Wigglesworth, Charles Finney, Billy Graham, John Bevere, Rick Renner, and Greg Hinnant have pointed believers back to the authority of Scripture.

Character and godliness must always be valued above charisma and popularity.

Often, the most godly message is not the most popular one. Jeremiah discovered this when he faithfully proclaimed God’s truth despite widespread rejection.

Jesus warned His followers in John 15:19 that the world would not always embrace those who belong to Him. Faithfulness sometimes requires standing apart from the crowd.

Joshua and Caleb likely faced criticism and isolation when they refused to agree with the fearful majority. Yet they remained steadfast — and in time, they inherited the promise.

Today, many people shape their worldview based on what they hear on the news, social media, or popular culture. This is the majority report.

But believers must choose to live by a different report — the Word of God.

God’s truth does not adjust to fit our lifestyle. Instead, His Word transforms us into the people He calls us to be.

Paul warned Timothy that a time would come when people would no longer tolerate sound doctrine. Instead, they would seek teachers who tell them what they want to hear (2 Timothy 4:1–5). Scripture also warns that in the last days many will abandon the truth and follow deceptive teachings (1 Timothy 4:1–2).

For this reason, believers must stand firmly on the authority of God’s Word, regardless of cultural pressure or popular opinion.

The question we must each answer is simple:

Will we believe the majority report, or will we stand on the minority report of faith?

Application

Take a moment to reflect on these questions:
•Am I allowing fear of people or opinions to influence my faith?
•Do I evaluate ideas and teachings by the authority of Scripture?
•Am I listening more to cultural voices or to God’s Word?
•What promise of God do I need to trust today?

Choose today to stand firmly on the truth of God’s Word, even when it places you in the minority.

Prayer

Father, help me to keep my eyes on the prize. Help me to live according to the dictates of Your holy Word. Let Your Word bring life to my soul and grace to those who hear it from me.

Let my life reflect the Word that lives inside of me. Help me hide Your Word in my heart so that it keeps me from sin and guides my steps.

Let Your Word be a lamp for my feet and a light for my path so that I can see clearly where You are leading me.

Transform me, heal me, guide me, and empower me through Your Word. Help me stand firmly in faith regardless of the opinions around me.

Lord, I choose to follow You and stand upon Your truth. Thank You for calling me and allowing me to walk in Your promises.

Amen.
