Theme: The Blessing of Serving Others

Key Scripture: Acts 20:35 (NKJV)

“And remember the words of the Lord Jesus, that He said, ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’”

Opening Thought: Serving Is a Blessing, Not a Burden

When we think about serving, we often focus on what we give—our time, energy, resources, and abilities. But Jesus reveals a powerful Kingdom principle: When we serve others, we are blessed in return.

Serving is more than fulfilling a responsibility or meeting a need. It is an opportunity to experience God’s love, discover our purpose, build meaningful relationships, and grow spiritually.

God designed us not simply to receive His blessings but to become a blessing to others. Something beautiful happens when we move beyond ourselves and begin investing in the lives of those around us.

We may begin serving to bless someone else, only to discover that God has blessed us through the experience.

1. Serving Brings Blessing — Proverbs 11:25 (NKJV)

“The generous soul will be made rich, and he who waters will also be watered himself.”

God has established a principle of refreshing. As we pour into others, He also refreshes us. The blessing may come through joy, fulfillment, encouragement, or spiritual growth.

2. Serving Reflects the Heart of Jesus — Mark 10:45 (NKJV)

“For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.”

Jesus modeled servant leadership. When we serve, we become more like Him.

“As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

Every believer has something valuable to contribute. Our gifts are not simply for our own benefit but are meant to strengthen and encourage others.

Consider how serving develops humility, compassion, patience, generosity, and faith.

4. What sometimes keeps us from serving?

Is it a busy schedule, insecurity, feeling unqualified, or simply not recognizing an opportunity? How can we overcome those obstacles?

5. How does serving strengthen our church family and build community?

What happens when people move from simply attending church to actively participating in its mission?

6. What gifts, abilities, or experiences has God given you that could bless someone else?

Remember that serving doesn’t always require a title, position, or special talent. Sometimes it begins with simply being available.

7. What is one practical way you can serve someone this week?

Think beyond organized church ministries. Consider your family, workplace, neighborhood, or someone who may need encouragement.

The Blessings We Receive Through Serving

* Joy: We experience the fulfillment of making a difference.
* Purpose: We discover that God can use our lives to impact others.
* Connection: We build stronger relationships and a deeper sense of belonging.
* Spiritual Growth: We develop Christlike character as we put our faith into action.
* Refreshment: As we encourage and strengthen others, God often encourages and strengthens us.

Personal Challenge: Find Your Place to Serve

This week, ask God to show you one opportunity to be a blessing to someone else. It might be volunteering at church, encouraging someone who is struggling, meeting a practical need, or simply giving your time to someone who needs a friend.

Don’t serve merely to receive something in return. Serve because you love God and love people—and discover the blessing that comes through giving yourself away.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the privilege of serving You by serving others. Help us see opportunities around us to make a difference. Give us willing hearts, generous spirits, and a genuine love for people. Teach us that true fulfillment is not found only in what we receive, but also in what we give.
