“Obedience that Follows Faith”

Devotional Thought:

Believing in Jesus is not the end—it’s the beginning. The real question is: “What now?” The Bible shows us that genuine faith leads to obedience, and Jesus Himself is our example. Though He was fully God, Jesus humbled Himself to follow the will of the Father—obedient even to the point of death on a cross.

The Greek word for obedience, hupakouo, means “to listen under authority.” It implies not just hearing, but responding. Jesus heard the Father and obeyed. As followers of Christ, we are called to do the same.

Two key steps Jesus commands every believer to take are:
1.Water Baptism – A public affirmation of our inward faith.
2.Baptism in the Holy Spirit – Empowerment to live the life God has called us to.

On the day of His resurrection, Jesus breathed the Holy Spirit into His disciples, symbolizing new life—just like the breath God gave Adam. Later, He told them to wait for the baptism of power that would come with the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8). These aren’t optional extras; they are mandates—authoritative commands from our Lord.

Obedience also means going and making disciples. That’s not just the pastor’s job—it’s a call to every believer. Whether it’s teaching, serving, cleaning, or simply loving others well, there is a place for you in God’s mission.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for showing us what true obedience looks like. Help me to listen to Your voice and respond with a willing heart. Empower me with Your Holy Spirit so I can live boldly and serve faithfully. I want to follow You in every way—baptized in water, filled with Your Spirit, and active in Your mission. Amen.
