A Positive Attitude in Every Step

DCC Devotionals: A Positive Attitude in Every Step

Scripture:
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah”
—Psalm 46:1-3

Reflection:

Life’s unpredictability can often shake our confidence. We all face moments when the “mountains” in our lives—our plans, security, or stability—seem to crumble into the sea. Yet, Psalm 46 encourages us to respond to life’s challenges not with fear but with faith.

Why can we maintain a positive attitude even when life feels uncertain? The psalm offers three foundational truths about God:
1.He is our refuge: In the midst of chaos, God is a safe place where we can find peace and rest.
2.He is our strength: When our strength fails, God renews us, giving us the ability to persevere.
3.He is our help: God is not distant or detached but present, walking with us every step of the way.

A positive attitude isn’t about denying reality or avoiding difficulties. Instead, it’s about anchoring our hearts in these truths and trusting that God is greater than any storm we face. When we focus on His presence rather than our problems, we find the courage to keep moving forward.

Group Discussion Questions:
1.What does it mean to you that God is your refuge, strength, and help?
2.Can you share a time when God’s presence helped you face a challenge with a positive attitude?
3.What practical steps can you take to focus on God instead of fear during difficult times?

Application:

This week, take a step of faith by intentionally focusing on God’s promises in moments of trouble. When you face a challenge:
•Pause and Pray: Take a moment to remind yourself that God is with you.
•Reflect on Scripture: Meditate on Psalm 46:1-3 or another verse that encourages your heart.
•Choose Gratitude: Identify one thing you’re thankful for each day, even in difficult circumstances.

Prayer:

Father, You are my refuge and strength, my ever-present help in times of trouble. Thank You for walking with me through every challenge and uncertainty. Help me to focus on Your promises and trust in Your constant presence. Give me a heart full of faith, gratitude, and peace, so I can face every step with a positive attitude. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Selah Moment:

Spend a few quiet moments reflecting on God’s faithfulness in your life. How has He carried you through past difficulties? Let those memories encourage you to trust Him more fully today.
