DCC Devotionals : Three Keys to Prosperity
By Don Vess
Introduction
How many of us desire to prosper? More importantly, do we believe that it is God’s will for His people to prosper?
The Bible affirms that God wants His people to flourish in every area of life:
“Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers.”
— 3 John 1:2 (AMP)
God desires prosperity for His children, but true prosperity is more than material wealth—it comes from seeking Him, putting Him first, and living according to His principles. Let’s explore three key biblical principles that unlock God’s prosperity in our lives.
Key #1: Seek the Lord for Purpose and Direction
“As long as he sought the Lord, God made him prosper.”
— 2 Chronicles 26:5 (NKJV)
King Uzziah prospered as long as he sought God. However, when pride crept into his heart, he overstepped his boundaries, attempting to take on the role of a priest—something God had not called him to do. His downfall came when he stopped seeking God and began relying on his own success.
Like Uzziah, we must continually seek God for direction. Prosperity is not just about financial success; it’s about walking in God’s purpose and receiving His guidance in every decision.
Reflection
•Are you regularly seeking God’s will for your life?
•In what ways can you ensure that God remains your primary source of direction?
Prayer
Lord, help me to seek You daily. Keep my heart humble and dependent on You, so that I may walk in the purpose You have set before me. Amen.
Key #2: Put God First in Your Life
“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.”
— Matthew 6:33 (KJV)
When we prioritize God above everything else, He takes care of our needs. Worry fades when we trust that God is in control. True prosperity comes when we seek His kingdom first, knowing that He will supply all that we need.
Reflection
•What areas of your life do you need to surrender to God’s control?
•How can you intentionally put God first in your daily decisions?
Prayer
Father, I choose to seek You above all else. I trust that as I put You first, You will take care of every need in my life. Amen.
Key #3: Honor God with the Tithe
“Honor the Lord with your possessions, and with the firstfruits of all your increase; so your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will overflow with new wine.”
— Proverbs 3:9-10 (NKJV)
Tithing is an act of worship, obedience, and trust. It acknowledges that everything we have comes from God, and returning the first 10% of our income to Him expresses our faith in His provision.
Jesus Himself affirmed the importance of tithing, not as a legalistic obligation, but as a matter of the heart (Matthew 23:23). When we are faithful in giving, God promises to bless us abundantly.
God’s Promise in Malachi 3:10:
•He will open the windows of heaven and pour out blessings.
•He will rebuke the devourer for our sake.
•He will ensure that we do not lack what we need.
Reflection
•Do you see tithing as a burden or as an opportunity to honor God?
•How can you cultivate a cheerful and willing heart in giving?
Prayer
Lord, I recognize that everything I have belongs to You. Help me to trust You with my finances and give with a joyful heart. Amen.
The Blessing of Generosity
“Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop.”
— 2 Corinthians 9:6 (NLT)
The principle of sowing and reaping applies to every area of life. When we give generously—whether in finances, time, or service—we position ourselves to receive God’s blessings.
Six Laws of Sowing and Reaping:
1.You reap after you sow – You must give first before expecting a return.
2.You reap more than you sow – One seed can produce a great harvest.
3.You reap in proportion to what you sow – The measure you give is the measure you receive (Luke 6:38).
4.You reap through natural means – God blesses you through people, opportunities, and promotions.
5.You reap what you sow – If you sow generously, you will reap generously.
6.You reap in due season – There is a time of waiting before the harvest comes, but God is always faithful.
Reflection
•Are you sowing generously in faith, trusting God for the harvest?
•How can you practice generosity beyond finances (time, encouragement, service)?
Prayer
Father, I trust Your principle of sowing and reaping. Help me to give cheerfully and trust You for the harvest. Amen.
Conclusion: Kingdom Advancement Requires Faithful Stewardship
The advancement of God’s kingdom requires resources, and He provides them through His people. Tithing and generosity are not just financial principles—they are acts of worship, trust, and obedience.
God’s prosperity is not about personal wealth alone; it is about being blessed to be a blessing. When we are faithful stewards of what God entrusts to us, He multiplies it for His glory.
“You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, so that by His poverty He could make you rich.”
— 2 Corinthians 8:9 (NLT)
Final Prayer
Lord, teach me to trust You completely in every area of my life. Help me to be a faithful steward of what You have given me, knowing that all I have belongs to You. May I seek You first, honor You with my resources, and give generously as an act of worship. Thank You for Your faithfulness and the blessings You pour out on those who trust You. Amen.
